When I saw the Lisa Brown collection on the catwalk at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Festival Brisbane in August, I was taken back by the cool world graphic silk print used.
I got the chance to interview designer Lisa Brown about her "Vagabond - Wanderer"Collection.
Lisa Brown did not study design but is a self taught designer. She discovered she had an eye for beautiful fabrics and detail but had the dilemma that she couldn't afford to buy the things she loved. This realisation made her get creative and start designing clothes for herself eventually launching herself as a designer. Even though Lisa didn't officially study any design course, she does recommend those wanting a career in fashion design to study a course.
As a child, Lisa was a tomboy and never liked wearing dresses. At the tender age of 13, Lisa began admiring her older sisters' clothing and she then began paying more attention to fashion. Lisa is inspired by fashion icons such as Bianca Jagger's style and admires clever Australian designers such as Dion Lee for his interesting layering and New York designer Donna Karan for her effortless draping.
When designing her own collections Lisa aims to create wearable pieces that could take you from day to night anywhere in the world plus also a few special occasion pieces. Using silks & cottons, Lisa Brown designs are perfect to wear for the hot Australian climate, day time weekend dressing to party to dinner. When asked what her favourite pieces in the collection were, Lisa answered "I’m loving my Neva Map print pants, Evita Haram pants & Lucille top".
